Tank Builders Scaffold Guidelines
Safety
Due to the unique nature of tank and vessel construction, special procedures including scaffolding for tank and vessel erection and maintenance have been developed. For example, unlike more conventional scaffolds, tank scaffolds must have highly portable low-density occupancy by workers.
The Tank Builders Scaffold Guidelines have been developed by members of STI/SPFA to reflect industry practice. They provide methods to establish minimum safe installation, use, maintenance, dismantling, inspection, and training of employees in the hazards of tank builders scaffold.
Topics include:
- Installation Procedure
- Altering and Dismantling Procedure
- General Rules for Scaffold Use
- Training
- Retraining
Each employer is responsible for complying with OSHA guidelines under 29 CFR, 1926.450-1926.454 and as listed in Appendix A in establishing the proper use of scaffolds and elevated work locations for their employees.
