Stainless steel tanks have always been a viable solution for fluid storage but are now being considered for repair and refurbishing options. One way to reduce the incidence of tank bottom leaks is to construct or re-construct tanks with a stainless steel bottom. Whether it is a replacement bottom or a new construction tank bottom duplex stainless steels offer advantages in properties, performance and cost.

The initial selection will require evaluation several aspects of the materials properties and presence in the marketplace. These include corrosion properties, mechanical properties, applicable construction codes, availability, fabricability, inspection requirements and future maintenance requirements. The final consideration will be cost and both investment and life cycle costs must be considered.
